|
Failure to obey terms of service of a site can get you in more trouble than just with the site itself. Keep reading to find out some of the other consequences of breaking the rules.
It never ceases to amaze me the things that marketers try to get away with. I'm not going to mention any practices by name because I don't want to give anybody any ideas, but what I am going to do is give you some reasons why defying terms of service is a bad thing. Hopefully, after you read this article, you'll realize that playing by the rules is always the best way to go. The most obvious reason for obeying terms of service is the legal reason. A lot of marketers think that these words printed on a web page are meaningless, but they're not. These sites mean business and if you ignore their terms of service, they have every reason to delete your content, membership or whatever and you won't have a leg to stand on. You'll be unable to use that site's services for a long as you continue to market online. So if it's a service you really depended on, you basically just shot yourself in the foot. But losing the site's service is only the beginning of the problem. And this is what most marketers don't realize. See, many sites, depending on their nature, not only affect the person who is a member but also affect that member's prospects. For example, one site that I know of is an ad tracking service. Well, if you break their terms of service, all your ad tracking URLs get deactivated. Now, imagine one of your prospect's sees this message, and yes, the message that pops up on the deactivated URL is that it was deactivated because of a terms of service breach. How do you think your prospect is going to feel about you as a marketer? Do you think he's going to look at you as an ethical one? So you see, the actions you as a marketer take, when violating a terms of service, can greatly affect how you are viewed by your prospects. Imagine you are part of a membership site and are banned. All the people who are members because of you will find out about this and again, your reputation is shot. We don't live in a bubble or a vacuum. Everything we do affects everything around us. So please do yourself a favor...obey the terms of service of a site that you are a member of. Failure to do so can seriously affect your bottom line. To YOUR Success, Steven Wagenheim |
