Just recently, one of the Warrior Forum members made a post about how he had unsubscribed from somebody's list because he found the subject line of the email to be offensive. Now, certainly this is his right to do so and I'm not arguing that.
Just recently, one of the Warrior Forum members made a post about how he had unsubscribed from somebody's list because he found the subject line of the email to be offensive. Now, certainly this is his right to do so and I'm not arguing that. However, there were others who got the same email who WEREN'T offended and they DIDN'T unsubscribe. So, was the subject offensive or not? Well, what is offensive to one person may not be to another. Therefore, when you're building a list, you have to keep this in mind. But, the question is, how DO you talk to your list? The answer depends on a lot of factors. This article will cover some of them. The first thing you have to consider when emailing your list is the niche. What kind of people are most likely going to be subscribing? For example, if you're targeting a bunch of church goers, I seriously suggest that you keep the language as pure as possible, especially if you're selling bibles. Otherwise, you're likely to find your list leaving you in droves. However, if you're targeting a bunch of people who collect risque comic books, it might be okay to include some off color language. The key is, you MUST know who your audience is. Another thing to consider is the actual image YOU want to portray to these people. Maybe you're only looking for a certain kind of subscriber. Take the Rich Jerk as an example. His emails were certainly targeted to people who were more broad minded than the average church goer. And if he offended anybody along the way, he really didn't care because he didn't want these people on his list anyway. He only wanted people who identified with him and his life style. Finally, you need to consider what kind of backlash you're willing to accept. If you're going to send emails that are off color, expect the news to get around. Expect a lot of bad talk because let's face it, there are people who are going to talk...just like that Warrior Forum member did. I know that they say that even bad publicity is good, but I don't always believe that's true. Ultimately, it's YOUR choice what kind of emails to send out. Just make sure you take the above items into consideration before you press that send button. To YOUR Success,
