Business Website - Build It and Theyll Come? Check the Facts!

Gone are the days when you make the site and they'll come. In the early days of the Internet -- I'm talking about 1990s, not the ARPANET -- you can create a site about virtually anything and get it into the search engine on the first page. The total number of results? Perhaps a few pages top.

Nowadays there are billions upon billions of web pages and millions of domains. Sure, the number of people who have access to the Internet is growing too but it's nothing compared to the growth of the site.

This is true especially after people start realizing that making money on the Internet is not only possible, but can offer the kind of lifestyle they can only dream about before the Internet.

Marketing and promotion of a web site is very important to be successful. You can write a lot of very high quality content and no one even notice. It's very common -- I think you've seen it too -- that many sites or blogs have very few readers albeit the quality of the posts far exceed others who are more popular. (Popular, from the web site standpoint, is getting more traffic or more regular readers.)

On the other hand, sites with so-so quality content can build a great fan base if the site owners know how to market themselves and their content right.

This may sound like a rant. It's partially true, I admit. However, it is so important to realize this fact and take action immediately. This is the one biggest mistake I've made when I started online.

Being an introvert, I avoid networking with others. I know what I'm doing and my content is solid but the progress is very slow until I start mingling with others in public forums and other community sites.

Getting your name out, what you do and what you have to offer on your site is indeed a critical step in online marketing .
