If you are new to internet marketing and just starting out than you are all too familiar with information overload. It's when you have too much information coming in from all different directions that you just don't know what to do. This can leave you feeling frustrated, confused and flat out overwhelmed.

When you are starting an online business it is easy to get overwhelmed with all the information that is out there. There are so many different facets and opinions on all the different facets that it can make you crazy. There is so much to know, such as pay per click marketing, web 2.0 marketing, blogging, article marketing, affiliate marketing and the list goes on.

Here are some tips to remember to keep your information load at a minimum.

  1. Digest small bits of information one at a time. This sounds easy, but it isn't. There is something about human nature that tells us to try to do it all at once. This is virtually impossible. Especially when it comes to marketing. Take one subject you want to learn about and learn it well before you move on to the next. For instance if you want to learn about affiliate marketing than download a book on the subject, get started and then move onto blogging.
  2. Know your limits. By this, I mean know what is possible for you in your business. If you do not have cash than do not invest your money into a book that teaches you how to do pay per click advertising if you can not implement that strategy in your business. Start with getting a free blog and learn how to make money with that.
  3. Set actionable goals. This is extremely important. It keeps you focused and mastering a new skill set. If you are learning about how to blog than set goals for yourself in that area. For example day 1- Research your niche and compile keyword data. Day 2- get a free blog and name it. Day 3 - write your first post. Day 4 - implement strategies to drive traffic to your blog etc. You want to keep yourself busy doing something everyday until you start to make a profit. Do not veer off into other area before you are ready.

There is a term you might of heard of, "paralysis by analysis". You can spend so much of your time weeding through information, learning and analyzing the business that you never accomplish anything. You will spend more money in the "analysis" phase. So it is important to move past this so you can start experiencing some success in your business.

The bottom line in all of this is to learn a little bit of information and then apply it. Only after you do this you should continue your education. Don't do it all at once and don't try to learn it all at once because It takes time. Keep this in mind when you start out and you will save yourself a lot of stress in the long run.
